The #CFPB has cancelled plans to introduce new rules designed to limit the ability of
#DataBrokers to sell sensitive #information about Americans, including #financial data, #credit history, & #SocialSecurity numbers [#SSN].
CFPB proposed the new rule in early December under #Biden’s fmr director Rohit Chopra, who said the changes were necessary to combat commercial #surveillance practices that “threaten our personal #safety & undermine America’s #NationalSecurity.”

TIL you can get a new #SSN if you’re a #DV victim, you are harassed, or if you can prove your life is in danger.

I can’t even imagine what a pain in the ass it would be to change it everywhere you would need to change it, but it’s nice this is an option.

#DOGE can't explain why it wants sensitive government data : NPR

Fewer than 50 people have access to #SocialSecurity Administration databases containing hundreds of millions of people's private financial and personal information.

But only one also has access to the government's human resources and student loan files.

The system at the #Interior Department gives DOGE "visibility into sensitive employee information, such as #SocialSecurity numbers, and the ability to more easily hire and fire workers,"

@Andromxda @pixelcode How can you claim something you can't evidence?

It makes you look like one of those folks shilling #VPN|s that ain't logless after all...

  • I don't believe in #marketing #lies and #Signal can't (and won't) be able to evidence that they don't log shit.

At least they should be honest about things and not claim bs, cuz demanding a #PhoneNumber is just #KYC with extra steps like demanding any #SSN or other #PII. Makes them look like chinese MMORPGs that demand ID card numbers for account signups, thus #paywalling the ability to use their service anonymously...

They can't fulfill any kind of subpoena, because they simply don't have the data. This was proven in court: https://signal.org/bigbrother/cd-california-grand-jury/ I don't know what your mission is, any why you're constantly spreading misinformation about a secure communications platform, trying to discourage people from using it, without naming alternatives. It's pretty suspicious at the very least.

WaPo: "Social Security numbers and other private information unmasked in JFK files"

"The data belongs to more than 200 former congressional staffers and others with connections to decades-old investigations."

Well, of course they were! This is what happens when one rushes past norms and procedures, heading right for the door that leads to irresponsibility.

I agree with you Paul.

About #TheShot though, here we have a program which discusses very important issues (Dr Shortis is knowledgeable person and her views are always well thought out) but the hosts (Dave in this case) agreeing with their guest (Dr Shortis in this case) showed their lack of understanding (in this case the ‘mission profile’ informing an #SSN design). Dr Shortis’ view is that we should only have a sub-surface force to secure the littoral waters around Australia (a view I do not subscribe to) and she correctly pointed out that the #Virginia class boats are ill suited to that task.

IMO, if you don’t know much about something, you should ‘listen’ so you can ask intelligent questions (to inform your listeners) and not make stuff up for whatever reason you have to do this. /end_critique

Not sure that the Untied Kingdom will row back on its AUKUS nuclear submarine partnership with Australia in favour of Europe as a result of #TraitorTrump's siding with Putin rather than the West.

UK will need new nuclear boats to counter Putin's Russia as much as Oz will need them to counter Xi's China, and both countries will continue to benefit from collaboration (especially when #Trump withdraws our nuclear security clearances).
