I work in IT. I love vaccines so much I enrolled a newborn in the MenACWY trial.

Yet it still took me three tries to summon the activation energy to get through the multi-organisation onlineyness of consent to the Year 10 MenACWY dose for the same child.

Honestly, moving the parental consent online, distributing the link via QR code, and then requiring that parents log into the Service NSW portal to provide consent isn't helping.

Emailed QR codes aren't straightforward to open. Some adults don't have a Service NSW account (I imagine this is especially true of recent immigrants). Etc.

The little things REALLY matter for vaccination, especially against low-probability illnesses like cervical cancer. Make it easy, easy, easy to say yes.

"Measles is often seen as a routine childhood illness — a fever, a rash, and recovery — but complications are common. Even when it doesn’t kill, measles can cause lasting damage. It weakens the immune system, making people vulnerable to other infections for months or years. That means children who seem to recover may still face serious health risks long after the illness is gone."

More measles exposures are happening at #airports and tourist destinations. Here’s what travelers need to know
In 2000, measles was declared eliminated from the #US due to highly effective and coordinated #vaccination efforts. That year, only 85 cases were recorded, all of which were imported. But at least 1,157 measles cases have been reported this year.

When U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. changed the country's policy on COVID-19 vaccines in May, the HHS sent a document to lawmakers to explain his thinking. Entitled "COVID Recommendation FAQ," KFF Health News says it cites multiple scientific studies that are unpublished or under dispute, and mischaracterizes others. “This is RFK Jr.’s playbook,” said Sean O’Leary, chair of the Committee on Infectious Diseases for the American Academy of Pediatric. “Either cherry-pick from good science or take junk science to support his premise — this has been his playbook for 20 years.” Here's more detail.

Good morning. 😷⚕️💉

12 June 2025

Today was supposed to be a day off, but instead, we’ve scheduled an appointment for COVID-19 vaccinations. According to the CDC, individuals over 65 are advised to get another shot six months after their last dose. No matter what you’ve read, 65 is not the new 35—protecting yourself is essential. Honestly, even if you’re 35, I’d recommend doing the same.

The biggest difference now compared to the height of the pandemic is that we have medications capable of defeating the virus if taken within a specific timeframe. Some, however, are fairly invasive and require hospitalization.

At the end of the day, no matter what some cray carys might say, vaccination is the safer choice—me thinks.

"Immunization is not just a personal choice; it is a responsibility we have towards one another." — Dr. Soumya Swaminathan

"There is no vaccine against stupidity." — Albert Einstein

"The first thing to do if someone expresses uncertainty about vaccines to you, say researchers, is not to judge or dismiss them. It’s wrong to assume that people are ignorant, irrational or have naively swallowed online misinformation. A lot of people have genuine and legitimate questions..."

I guess, the main point is that there are risks associated with vaccines, but that the diseases that they prevent are much worse. #vaccine #vaccines #vaccination #VaccineSafety #VaccineSideEffects #VaccinesWork

www.nature.comHow to speak to a vaccine sceptic: research reveals what worksHesitancy about vaccinations is on the rise, but studies show there are specific ways to address people's questions.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has named eight new members to a government panel of vaccine advisors after firing the previous committee. These include Dr. Robert Malone, a physician who has propagated COVID-19 misinformation, Dr. Martin Kulldorff, a biostatistician and epidemiologist who was dismissed from Harvard Medical School after blasting the university's handling of the pandemic, and Vicky Pebsworth, who has a PhD in public health and serves on the board of The National Vaccine Information Center, widely regarded as an anti-vaccine group. Here's more from CNBC.

#RFKJr’s decision to “retire” the previous 17-member panel was widely decried by doctors’ groups & #PublicHealth orgs, who feared the advisers would be replaced by a group aligned w/RFKJr’s desire to *reassess*—& possibly end—longstanding #vaccination recommendations.
