Was just looking at my NAS's video stash and while adding Omri Cohen's positively brilliant "The Basics of Modular Synthesis With VCV Rack 2" videos I just bought I notice that I still have the full series of 90 classic "Destroy All Software" videos by Gary Bernhardt.

I sit like a great nerdy dragon atop my enormous nerdy hoard and hope that I can leverage it all in this lifetime :)

@alphabetter Hiya! Just wanted to say I LOVE the #vcvrack workshop PDF on your Lush Projects site!

I'm finding it to be an incredibly useful intro, you might want to add a link from your home page to it as I think many VCV newbies would find it to be an amazing resource!

Thanks for all the amazing work!

I know talking about #IOS on here immediately opts me out of the cool kids club, but I just wanted to point out an incredible resource I found in my current wandering journey through the pocket universe of #synthesizers and music making more generally:

youtube.com/c/JakobHaq

This guy's channel is a treasure trove of really useful and interesting information. Reviews, tutorials, and signposts galore for all manner of quirky, wild and interesting apps for making, synthesizing, and sequencing music on IOS.

I'm particularly enamored at the moment with TC-11, a rather remarkable multi-touch "instrument" he pointed out:

I really wish all this stuff were available on Android. I'm no fan of walled gardens, but the sad truth is that publishers don't want to invest the same way in Android apps and there's barely a market for any of this in IOS either as most of these apps haven't been updated in years.

He also co-authored a #vcvrack like modular synthesizer for IOS called Solderbox:

It's pretty incredible.

Have fun all! And maybe some enthusiastic open source authors could be inspired by some of this stuff to create parallel tools in the Android-verse :)

YouTubeJakob HaqMy name is Jakob Haq and I am a mobile music producer from Sweden with roughly 30 years of experience of computerized music making. For the past ten years I've mainly been make music using portable hardware with an iPad as a central platform. On this channel you'll find tutorials, reviews and demos featuring portable music hardware (Pocket operators, volcas, etc) and also videos featuring music apps and iDevices (iPad and iPhone). iOS is a central hub in all of my production work. All of my content including music, videos and animations have been produced with and on iDevices like the iPad and iPhone.

I still haven't figured out how to record a #vcvrack session though.

The "Record" extension hasn't worked for me yet on Windows. It just produces a series of clicks.

I need to invest more time in getting good with OBS Studio. I suspect that's a worthy investment of my time.

I know seasoned #vcvrack users will read this and think "DUH!" but I've gotta say, the enjoyment you get out of this stuff is vastly amplified when you start actually stringing sequences of modules together in interesting ways.

Like, I just added the Basti Pizza module into my library, and mixed it into a fun sequence I had going with just a VCO, delay module and a sequencer (in addition to the base level required stuff like audio mixer/out etc.)

The huge variations you can make in the sounds you creatre without changing anything are stunning, and now I understand the admonishment I've seen in many places to go slow when adding things.

REALLY explore the variations and soundscapes you can create with small numbers of modules added in.

That way later when you add you'll have a much better sense of the base you're building on.

All of this stuff is immensely fun, and I wish I had more time for it :)

A couple of weeks ago I was showing a friend the ins and outs of VCV rack and got lost in the music, after a while he just plonked his mobile phone down by the speaker and started recording.

Turns out it's the perfect long track for a hot day.

you can hear mouse clicks and other random noises that's just the style baby get used to it

I'm convinced that anyone who enjoys playing with #modularsynth is very much in touch with their inner child.

Because let me tell you, my inner 8 year old is practically SQUEE-ing with delight at the teeny tiny little VCO <-> Delay <-> Sequencer loop I created using #vcvrack

Make no mistake, you can't dance to this, and it's not THAT cool on its face... BUT I made it in 3-4 minutes of twiddling, and I am having a BALL with this software.

My hope is that this will eventually wend its way back to the Akai #midi keyboard I tried to teach myself to play piano on, and I think it will, but for now I am enjoying making crazy sounds with voltage, oscillators and the like immensely.

All of this playing with #modularsynth anf #vcvrack has me thinking.

Given that a plugin exists to expose VCVRack's API via TCP/IP - github.com/JerrySievert/vcv-ht

and #fujinet - I wonder if you could wire in your Atari 8 bit as a part of your modular synthesizer :)

POKEY made some truly unique trills, rumbles and squeaks :)

(Haven't done ANYTHING with this yet, just spitballing)

So I'm having a lot of fun with this free intro course on understanding modular synthesis: soundandsynthesis.com/firstsyn

The first few videos are a bit "YOU CAN DO IT!" fluff, but once it gets going I've found it incredibly helpful.

The course uses #vcvrack - vcvrack.com/ free software that lets you play with a virtual modular eurorack synthesizer.

Ever since I hit a virtuosity wall trying to teach myself how to play piano I've been itching to find ways to get into more creativity with #music and this feels like a good start :)

(Hat tip to @degville from @latenightlinux for first turning me on to VCVRack and getting me interested!)

in preparation stages for a live performance later this year, had been considering working #vcvrack into my setup, but i'm having big reservations.
Rack has a problem making it unreliable in a live setting, namely that i can streamline a patch so that it is low on CPU load, and is stable, but there will still be random, unpredictable CPU load spikes.

the meter will show max CPU load in the 40 or 50% range, but every now and again will spike up to 300% for a second causing dropouts & clicks
