Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned.
I'm slowly getting the hang of band weaving and enjoying the rhythm of it.

It's been good learning. Now onto more learning Well... When my brain is less mush so I don't mess up the warp.
We just got back from an inspiring workshop at Fibershed, where we learned about using invasive plants to make baskets! For example, this is Pampas Grass, an ornamental grass often used for landscaping, despite being an invasive species here in California. Harvesting non-native plants — and then creating beautiful and functional objects out of the material — helps rebalance local ecologies.

I'm biased, but I think it's a delightful issue. every question I've ever had about warps is in there.

Chenille rayon is truly awful. But, it’s now combed, separated and wound. And that was more than enough effort for one day. It’s now cat-safe, so I can rest.

First band weaving attempt done.
I have done a lot of learning with it. As I suspected, I'm finding this process more difficult than my frame loom. It is very satisfying when I get it right and I am excited to try another one with less thick wool. That'll have to wait for next week. Fatigue is strong this weekend.
Finished my latest weaving project. This was probably more complicated than I should have gone with for my second attempt but it's turned out nice enough. The idea was to turn it into a pillowcase for a throw pillow. The rigid heddle loom I have isn't the widest so I'm not sure that's going to work super well.
Der Anfang ist gemacht. #Dresden, du kannst #weben kommen! Die #DresdnerHeide bietet spannende #Werkabenteuer!
Getting there
A few passes of purple and I'll call it a day with this one.
It's been a good exercise to keep in mind how hard or not I pushed down the weft. I want to practice this more but with the next one, I want to try something different than plain weave, see what it feels like and look like.
