We stopped playing the new Mario Kart just long enough to tear down the Switch 2 and find out how repairable it really is. It didn't take long before we started wondering: Is this the best Nintendo could do? We say no.

The Switch 2 earned a repairability score of 3 out of 10, which means we think people really ought to get some experience under their belt before tackling a repair.

Disappointing for sure. When you consider that the two parts that wore out on my original Switch were the fan and the joysticks, having to go thru extra steps to replace them is tedious. The Joy-Con joysticks are especially a baffling decision, and I'm not quite sure what exactly was done to make them better, as Nintendo was quoted.

Thus if you're averse to the drift, better invest on a Pro Controller.

iFixit · Switch 2 Teardown: Still Glued, Still Soldered, Still DriftingBy Elizabeth Chamberlain

RIP repairability.

"Following its full teardown of the new console, iFixit is giving the Switch 2 a 3 out of 10 repairability score thanks, in part, to a battery that’s once again “glued in with powerful adhesive” and flash storage modules and USB-C ports that are soldered to the main board."
