This is a close-up view of a giant trillium in red or maroon-red color. The image is from yesterday in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Redwood National and State Parks). The plant was in low light and snuggled in with a variety of other plants so the image quality is less than ideal. Nonetheless, these are very interesting flowers to see, especially when one considers the size and color (frequently described as “mottled “) of the leaves as well!

The aftermath of Storm Eowyn. If news sources are correct, this is the oldest, tallest tree that was lost in the storm. Even half gone, it's still a giant. Far from the only loss, though I imagine everything has been cleaned up significantly as it's been some time. The remaining trees that have fallen and still remain are ones I think are going to be left, which is an idea I like. It'll be fascinating to see what they do regardless.
