Velella Velella or “by-the-wind-sailor” washed ashore in the coastal section of Redwood National and State Parks. Examples ranged in color from clear to deep blue. A variety of sizes were noted with most being less than three inches in diameter. This image shows the semi-transparent Velella Velella on the sand with the breaking waves of the Pacific Ocean in the background and a slightly cloudy blue sky above.

I have been rather quiet lately again, but for good reason. After a week of walking and taking film photos in the Sierra Nevada (so you don’t have to), I stopped off for an unplanned few days in Cabo de Gata on the coast.

This photo is of a volcanic rock formation on the Cabo de Gata coast known as las sirenas. More photos from the Sierra Nevada and Cabo de Gata will follow. I need to develop the films!
