A Tyson fac is like a black hole, & nothing in town escapes the pull of the $B co *economy of scale depends on that mix of🚨entrenched poverty +fear that power can instill. The co depends on a low-wage WF that's est to be up to 50% undoc. Many of these WKRs are from MX & C America...

These IMM WKRs are central. The work ethic & steadfast organizing of the ppl: transcends pol activism & approaches something timeless.

The Nation · A Generation of Injustice at Tyson FoodsAlice Driver’s Life and Death of the American Worker, an intimate look at a processing plant in Arkansas, exposes the inhumanity of a workplace and how workers fought back.

"As technologists, we are workers first. We cannot individually stop the machine of capitalism from exploiting our labor, and, while this tide will shift, many of us are too romanced by the technofuturist dream of [Large Language Models] — despite widespread, multidisciplinary criticism of the technology and disastrous consequences in its application so far — to easily reconsider our adoption of it."

"To make it work, [Microsoft Japan] mandated that no meetings could go longer than 30 minutes. It also told managers to avoid unnecessary meetings and use face-to-face chats instead. Its widely reported results were striking: Productivity increased by 40% over the trial period, while time off fell by 25%."

#intro

Hi, I'm brib. I figure it's time to write a new updated intro, now that I understand better how I'm using Mastodon.

I'm a programmer by trade who still loves tech despite the best efforts of the tech industry. As a result I gravitate towards the #IndieWeb; I keep my own self-hosted blog (which is also in need of an update :blobcatsweat: ).

Regarding the tech industry, I seem to have found myself quite the #Luddite. Namely, I get quickly frustrated when I try to pair-program with an unreliable machine, and I resent just how much GenAI has affected artists of all kinds. Plus, the Internet is now full of slop, thanks to Sam Altman inventing a new kind of stupid.

I fight quite passionately for #WorkersRights and #TransRights. Expect to see posts related to those.

Outside of that I do #art and #music, I like putting my art pieces on here to show them off and also break up the doom

"Gulf Cooperation Council countries are exposing migrant workers to yet another deadly summer of extreme heat conditions without adequate protection, Human Rights Watch -today. The countries🚨ignore the scientific evidence on the limitations of calendar-based midday work bans to shield workers from heat-related health risks."

Trump aligns with the murderous Gulf State Heads.
