"Life Is A Highway" by Rascal Flatts & Lzzy Hale

Listen on Apple Music (music.apple.com/us/album/life-)

For some strange reason, and maybe because I knew their new album was coming out today, today's song has been stuck in my head for a few days now. Life Is A Highway by Rascal Flatts & Lzzy Hale. It's a remake, or in this case, refueled as their new album is just old songs that are redone.

Just another one of those songs that get stuck in my head and then it just won't leave for whatever reason. Great song, so I certainly don't mind!

[Intro]
Woo
Mm, yeah

[Verse 1]
Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore

[Pre-Chorus 1]
We won't hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today, yeah

[Chorus]
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're goin' my way
Well, I wanna drive it all night long

CISCO HOUSTON
Cowboy Ballads
U.S. 10” reissue
(Blue Cover)

Comfort music from when I was small.

As I’ve mentioned on here before, I had many Aunts and Uncles growing up as a kid, and folk, as well as classic country music (& Elvis) was very prevalent in all of their houses growing up.

Cisco Houston was among the artists that I have a very distinct memory of growing up. That wonderful, baritone voice of his, whether singing other artists’ songs (what he was more known for), or his own compositions.

He also was very close with and travelled with Woody Guthrie, and his takes on HIS songs are stellar as well.

Here, my favorites are “I Ride An Old Paint” and “Trouble In Mind”; the latter of which takes me back to my uncle’s garage, where he kept and worked on his many antique cars.

“Trouble in mind / I'm blue/ but I won't be blue always/
'Cause the sun's gonna shine
In my back door someday.”
