@m I posted about my previous endeavours a few years ago. I picked #Ubuntu Studio for the supposed no-hassle audio configuration after messing around with Jack & #Pulseaudio in regular Ubuntu, and the low latency I/O. I don't recall specifics wrt whether I needed #Carla or winetricks, but I remember the joy of discovering #yabridge. Most of the setup worked, but I got stranded trying to get the drag & drop part of the #EZDrummer midi clips from the #VST popup into a #DAW like #Ardour & #Reaper working. Cross-application UI interaction is apparently hard to get right with Wine on #Linux. Updating the applications involved later also gave me some trouble iirc.

This image is the of LatencyMon report after 12+ hours running on my studio system. The highest routine DPC actually occurred when I was watching early on, but it always does spike to over 500us when I run this test at some point, and it's always the cursed nvidia graphics card driver. All the latency figures are well low and LM still rates the system as good enough but... damn you nvidia...

In case you're taking the larger perspective on my screens, too… ;-)

My #DAW on #Linux is #Mixbus 10 Pro usually, for some things I also use #Ardour. I use the Mixbus channel strip processing (gate, EQ, compressors) a lot. I also use the old Harrison XT plugins and quite a number of Windows VSTs via LinVST. On the far right screen, you can see my little “mastering department” which usually consists of Harrison XT-MC multiband compressor, FabFilter ProQ3 EQ, Voxengo Elephant Limiter, and (not shown) #x42 EBU R128 meter.

My audio interface in this setup is a very old #RME #Digi9652 PCI card (the one preceding the HDSP series). It connects 24×24 channels to the #Yamaha #01v96i mixer in the foreground via ADAT Lightpipe. Now this neat console is rather more for my own fun with the mountain of synthesizers behind the camera, for mixdown jobs it serves merely as a monitor controller. I use a pair of Adam A7V speakers with their DSP being adjusted to the room.
