I wish I could write something for you
My pages are not what you expect
I do not have the wings that you seek
The flow, the finesse
I am too rough. My mouth opens
Emitting dark moths
And I am sorry for it
Love hopes for rainbows
For luminous butterflies
And perhaps you wish for that
Your smile fracturing when
Your love goes crooked
Malfunctioning
I know you need other
Not another, as you believe
That you need me
It’s all a lie, in the end

As the night falls and the stars emit
Their soft and subtle light,
I can't help but feel a sense of it
This melancholy that fills my mind.

The memories of what once was
Now only bring a sense of fuss
I try to hold on to the good
But it's hard when I feel misunderstood

So I'll let the rain continue to emit
The sound of my heart's melancholy fit
And maybe someday the sun will shine
And I'll be able to leave this sorrow behind.

Mastoprompt for 17 Dec 2022: emit

The pair turn around each other, locked in a spinning dance which the little white one leads. The dark one emits flashes with extreme precision – more accurate than our most exact atomic clock.

Abbé Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille named its frame "le Chevalet et la Palette" in 1756.

That is the story our people tell, from this seat in the infinite. Of the beacon, others may tell a different tale.

Mark radiated positivity, a beacon of hope and optimism in a world of cynicism and negativity. He would emit a positive aura far and wide, always the life of the party and never a bad word to say about anyone.

We'd known each other since we were awkward kids in the school yard, two odd shaped peas in a pod. He'd been kept back a year in school as he'd been quite unwell, a mystery illness that would plague him throughout his life, often in and out of hospital. This never got him down, a resilience that was testament to his character.

We became the best of friends.

I enjoyed his company immensely, spending our formative years getting into all kinds of mischief together. I was welcomed with open arms into his home, spending many an afternoon tormenting his younger sibling and eating a banquet of food that his Italian mother laid out, for fear of our pending malnutrition.

As we grew up, we became further entwined in each other's lives. He was with me at every milestone of my life. A best man at my wedding and a godfather to my firstborn son. A brother, not in blood but we had a bond that ran even deeper.

The phonecall on that fateful summers night absolutely broke me.

I'm still picking up the pieces.

I walk through the park over frozen grounds in the sunshine and everything seems to #emit light. Only it does not seem to reach me.

Later, I realise this is because it has nothing to log onto as I have turned off my own light.

It was not even because the pain was too big (albeit it seems to be, at times). It was to please the people around me.

I know better than that, now.
