#bloatware

Windows 11 25H2 introduces a native feature to remove pre-installed Microsoft Store apps considered bloatware 🧹

Users can now easily customize fresh installs by choosing which default apps to keep or discard, without using PowerShell or third-party tools ⚙️

This improves system cleanliness and user control over their devices 🔧
Expected public release later in 2025.

Nobody: "How much bullshit can we shove into our website?"

#deel: YES!

And that's just the crap that #uBlockOrigin and #NoScript caught:

Seriously, I get that not everyone is able to do #accessible and #performant #forms and #Websites and that #JavaScript is trendy and hip.

  • But this seriously isn't funny anymore, but insulting!

@patpro Thats not software but #bloatware like my office smartphone which is a samsung. Slow as hell and a half-hour update every 14 days. Compared to my #fairphone with #eos from @murena which boots in seconds, autoblocks ad trackers and has also smileys!! I love it but it's not for everyone.

If you want me to tell you about downsides just ask 😃

For any #MTCP, #DOS and #Retrocomputing nerds out there who are also running httpserv and want pretty graphs, poke me for a recipe for a hideosly bloated #logstash configuration to ingest the UDP logs.

I feed it to #Graylog which stores the data in #Opensearch - a pipeline that combined (and this is accurate) needs, conservatively, 4096 times as much RAM as the floppy museum itself (8MB).

And while looking at this when making this screenshot: I wonder why someone would hit http//floppy.museum with a Referer-header indicating they come from a salesforce-dot-com address? http-colon-slashslash-136.146.46.127 (about halfway down the list).

Anyone else noticed that Telus is force installing apps like TikTok?

Purchased brand new phone from manufacturer which does not have TikTok installed on it.

Brand new SIM card from Telus.

Add SIM to phone, create new gmail account and DE-select the apps set to automatically install during device setup.

Go to google play store, select App updates and while updating the installed apps, it downloads and installs TIKTOK, BOOKING.COM, AMAZON MUSIC, YOUTUBE, LINKEDIN

#Rooting a new #Xiaomi device is getting totally ridiculous these days.

I already jumped through the hoop to "request bootloader unlock permission" in one of Xiaomi's #bloatware apps at **EXACTLY** midnight beijing time, at least this worked. Now the second step would be to actually unlock the boot loader. On #FreeBSD, I can't use Xiaomi's unlocker tool (but I guess that's actually a good thing), so I found some python script that also works (after a bit of fiddling with it, patching shebang and removing some nonsense), and see what it tells me now.

Xiaomi, you used to be cool, a long time ago... 🙄
